    Away from the city noise

“For me it was important to be alone; solitude was a prerequisite to being openly and joyfully susceptible and responsive to the world of leaves, light, birdsong, flowers, flowing water.”

    Mary OliverUpstream: Selected Essays

A spring like day. We reached 71 degrees and nature painted clouds all over the blue canvas sky. It makes me smile! I spent some time at a couple natural areas this afternoon to watch the art show and journal. I hope you had a good day!

    Well Worth the Effort

“There are a hundred paths through the world that are easier than loving.
    But, who wants easier?”

    Mary Oliver

I finally got in my much needed bicycle ride yesterday afternoon. I rode out to Spring Canyon Park and back, a 5.9 mile ride. The last time I rode was December 27th. It felt good physically and mentally to ride again. I followed that up with a round trip ride to Mugs and back this morning, about 5.4 miles. My Fitbit is telling me to take it easy and go slower and I am. It has been cloudy and overcast today with the wind gusting up to 16 mph but the temperature is 68 degrees. Winter is not showing up in Colorado. The above image was taken last week on a drive along Horsetooth Reservoir. Love the blue and the effort!

For many years I had no clue what love was. I guess you can say I took a lot of those paths Mary Oliver mentions in search of it , while not really knowing what I was looking for. It also took a while to realize how I had love, lust and desires all tangled up in my head. I am happy to say that the past 25-30 years have given me an appreciation of all the varieties of love we can experience in life and the wisdom that there is no need to define love, but only experience the gift of loving and being loved. It requires knowing ourselves, letting go of preconditioned notions of love, taking risks, being open to the other, and an openness to the unlimited possibilities. That’s true whether loving or being loved. As Mary suggests it is not easy but in my experience, well worth the effort! I would even suggest it’s much easier than being full of hate. I hope you are having a good day.

    Living in the moment…

The moons footprint in the sky

To live in the moment… is the onlyfootprint one must follow..

    Oglala Lakota- Hinhan Wakangl

After coffee and conversation with my friends Terri and Jeff I rode home via Spring Creek Trail. The moon set its footprint in a clear blue sky over the mountains in the west. It seemed to be happy! Because it was happy I couldn’t let the opportunity pass for a photo. Now, I was happy! I hope you have a great day and I see snow is falling up north now.

    True Silence

True silence is calm being. True silence is appreciating the moment for the moment. Every breath a connection to my life force, my essence. It is the grandest music I have ever heard.

    Richard Wagamese

It’s been a hot day! I met Eric for coffee this morning and saw this vista near Prospect ponds on the way home. I had to stop because of the one puffy cloud. And, meadowlarks were singing when I got out of the car. I drove to Cheyenne for a BBQ at my granddaughters home. Her husband has just returned from a year’s deployment so we wanted to celebrate that he’s back safely. I ate way too much food, enjoyed the family time and was grateful for the water misters.

My MacBook Air M4 arrived on Thursday at about 1:00 pm. I began the transfer a half hour later. When it first began it said it had just over 34 hours remaining. Then 5 minutes later said 37 hours. The reality was more like 2 1/2 hours. All went smoothly and everything seems to work fine. I can see a major speed difference with this laptop in Lightroom. Probably will make me a better photographer in editing. Nah! Well, maybe.

    Our Love for the World

“If we can be fearless, and be with our pain, it turns. It doesn’t stay static. It only doesn’t change if we refuse to look at it. When we look at it, when we take it in our hands, when we can just be with it and keep breathing, then it turns. It turns to reveal its other face. And the other face of our pain for the world is our love for the world, our absolutely inseparable connectedness with all life.”

    Joanna Macy

The morning I took this image the weather app said +19 degrees but my aging body felt like it was more like -19 degrees!! The number is insignificant as it was bitter cold for me on this March morning. The cold is more painful than in years past. However those blue skies, low lying clouds and sunshine called me to be fearless and venture out to Reservoir RIdge Natural Area. The experience was exhilarating both physically and spiritually. Yes, I do have a love for this world! More rain/snow possible in the morning with very high wind gusts of 80 mph. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
