Opening Doors
Mystery Doors “Be an opener of doors” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
Five words but they do have power behind them. As for myself I could sure do more about opening more does in my life. I see them all the time in life. I would like to be able to quiet those voices within me who talk me out of opening more doors. I’m envious of those who are always opening the doors in their lives.

White Bucket
The White Bucket I haven’t been walking as much lately because I’m having trouble with the sciatic nerve in my left hip. This is due to the scoliosis I’ve had in my lower back for most of my life and is a sign its getting worse. The soreness and aching in my back has been something I’ve accepted but this pain my hip has bothered me enough to see a doctor.
The trip to doctor and x-rays shows the real condition: 40 degree curve in the lower lumbar and outward twist of my spine on my left side. I have deterioration in all five discs and bone spurs. After showing me the x-rays he told me the options I face. Unfortunately none of those options will fix my back but they can help me restore some health to my body. He then asked me what “I” wanted to do. I liked that! So, I start therapy and an education program. My work involves primarily standing and walking on a moving aircraft. We never just stand or walk as if we were on a sidewalk because of the constant movement of the aircraft. I have much more to do in this life and need my health to attain those dreams.

Taking the Same Path

Calvin CoolidgeOne of the other suggested components of motivation is persistence. So, I decided to look at that for a bit. Persistence is defined as the firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition. Once we’ve started our task is to continue to its completion. My persistence is always in flux, depending on how committed I am. I don’t think persistence needs to take on the form of insanity where we repeat the same steps and get the same results, but trying something else or approaching our subject with a different perspective to attain what we need or to discover something new. It can be as simple as walking the same paths with newer eyes or walking in the opposite direction. Who knows what we will see that we missed the previous times. Example: I’ve walked this street before but never seen this door. Wonder when they put it there. 🙂

So while walking the streets of the towns I travel to, I make sure to keep my eye on doors.I took a bit of a different approach for this door by placing it in the background rather than the foreground. It doesn’t matter what church it is or what flower it is we just need to have our camera and be open to the muse.

Vision and Voice by David duCheminFound this door walking along the streets of old Richmond near Virginia Commonwealth University. I was in search of a coffee shop called Rev It Up. I found the shop and met the owners, Dave and Sharon, who are from Colorado. I enjoyed my mocha and she even gave me the extra shot (decaf).
Anyway, the streets around the campus are loaded with wonderful architecture and bright colors. The distraction I find in this image is the reflection in the window, other than that I like. I would love to hear your critiques of this image. Is it too busy? Does it tell a story? Or am I just focusing on the colors? Let me have.
