    Ability to Love

    What makes us human
is not our mind, but our heart,
    not our ability to think
    but ability to love.

    Henri Nouwen

There was a wonderful feeling of fall this morning on my ride to the coffee shop. A light fog settled over the grass at Rolland Moore park and this tree was showing signs of the color changes. But the most telling was the coolness in the air. It felt and smelled like fall. It will not be long and I will be wearing heavier clothing on my ride. I hope you’re having a good day!

    Capable of Great Love

Edited with Lightroom then enhanced with Jetpack Image Editor

We can make a difference when we draw on our courage and creativity to stand up for our beliefs. Our small actions carry a cumulative power that can shift the planet onto a more positive course. We only need to tap our innate creativity and connect with expression not only through a particular medium like paint or clay or words; the other medium we all have to express our creativity is our lives. As human beings, we’re innately creative, capable of great love, and creatures of community. When we draw on our natural gifts and act together, we have enormous power to ease suffering and invent new possibilities for a better world.

    Kim Ridley

I post a lot of quotes here. I struggle sometimes to post long ones because too many words can confuse, distract and make a difference in how the reader understands what the author intended. The above quote is an example. What I was moved by in the quote was the fact that mankind is capable of great love, while knowing in my mind mankind is also capable of great hatred. But, I will keep my focus on hope and belief in great love! I hope you are having a great day!!!

    For the fun of it

    Edited with WordPress AI

    Kindness in words creates confidence.
    Kindness in thinking creates profoundness.
    Kindness in giving creates love.

    Lao Tzu

Early Sunday morning we had a nice .25 inch of rain. Around 2:31 am the rain began beating on my window and waking me from much needed beauty sleep. It was cool and damp when I headed out the door for my ride to Mugs. Everything was wet. When sunlight touched any of the dewdrops there was a sparkle. Just outside the coffee shop I noticed the dewdrops clinging to leaves and sparkling. For the fun of it I used the WordPress AI for the first time to add enhancement and using their Anime theme. I hope everyone had a good Mother’s Day. And please spread some Kindness!

    … and was a flower

    once a snowflake fell
on my brow and i loved
it so much and i kissed
it and it was happy and called its cousins
    and brothers and a web
    of snow engulfed me then
i reached to love them all
and i squeezed them and they became
a spring rain and i stood perfectly
    still and was a flower

    Winter Poem by Nikki Giovanni

We have clear blue skies and sunshine this morning. I awoke at about 4:46 am and said ugh, I don’t wanna get up! And, I didn’t. Slept in till 5:45 am. I loved this simple poem and wanted to share it with you. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!!

    Ordinary Mystics

To be an ordinary mystic is to lead with love, to prioritize compassion,
to regard the world with a sincere desire to see the goodness in others.

    Mirabai Starr

What I like about her quote is the word ordinary. We do live in a society that thinks we need to be special, different, even superior or that we already are, rather than seeing each other as ordinary equals. We are all human, made of the same stuff, but each with our own unique gifts and talents. Seems to me the world could use a few more ordinary mystics who have a sincere desire to see the goodness in others and embrace that goodness.

    A new foundation

Sooner or later all the people of the world will have to discover a way to live together in peace, and thereby transform this pending cosmic elegy into a creative psalm of brotherhood. If this is to be achieved, mankind must evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love.

    Martin Luther King, Jr.

We now teach that mankind has evolved physically and mentally. However, we have repeatedly proved we have not evolved as much in wisdom and maturity. For example, to solve human conflict with a method of love requires wisdom and maturity. And, without evolving in our wisdom and maturity we have shown conflict only adds to conflict. I do believe Dr. King is correct.

… not always my best thinking

Starburst from my porch this morning

I have been glancing at Google news and NPR news for the past month thinking I would stay better informed. I made sure not click on any of the links or read articles, I only read the headlines. But that wisdom showed me that some of my best thinking is not always my best thinking. In no time at all I found myself both angry and weeping for the world. So today as I journaled on my porch I wondered when was the last time we saw headlines with news of hope, love, compassion, tolerance, peace, forgiveness, acceptance, and stories of people who are making a positive difference in the world? Maybe that voice must come from each of us. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
