This wood carved Santa has a story. My dad started carving this santa a few years ago but became discouraged with it and set it to the side. One year when Sheree and I were down in Gold Canyon he brought it out and we all started working on him, carving and painting, including mom. Once we were satisfied with how he turned out we decided to start a tradition where he gets passed along with one of us for the year. So each Thanksgiving one of us takes him for the coming year. So, Santa is spending the coming year at my place until next Thanksgiving.Â

What heartwarming memories and a lovely tradition, Monte. You all did a great job on it; way beyond just a carving or even a Santa.

As I’ve mentioned, my dad is a wood carver so when we would go down there, we would sit on the patio out back or in the front, carve and share in conversation. Dad would have some kind of a project ready waiting for Sheree and I when we showed up. So there is a deep meaning to this carving. And yes, I think Santa turned out pretty good. Stay warm and dry my friend!

Loving Tradition.

Absolutely, Bill, and we will carry it on. I am not sure exactly how long we’ve been doing this, but it has to be close to 8 years. Stay warm!

That’s a lovely family tradition. Such a gift to still have your family to share with, especially as your Dad moves into this final chapter. Go gently, Monte.

Thank you, Joan, and I hope all of us can gently move into that final chapter and through it.
