You mentioned the lack of traffic noise in your Christmas post and reference it again here. Noise takes many forms, but it is a rare blessing when the audible noise is reduced. It is one of the things I remember most fondly about the snow when we lived in Ohio. The snow had the effect of reducing traffic while also muffling any ambient sounds. The idea of “rediscovering the silence is a good one.” You have to be paying attention to notice it.
Yes, snow can sure muffle sound and bring on lovely internal peace. I think you are correct when you say we need to be paying attention. That alone may be one of our cultures major problems in that we are constantly distracted. For many it’s almost impossible to experience silence and in some cases people are afraid of silence.

Thanks Joan. I took this back in December of 2023 at Arapaho Bend Natural Area. It is a favorite place of silence for me.
