“The trees act not as individuals, but somehow as a collective. Exactly how they do this, we don’t yet know. But what we see is the power of unity. What happens to one happens to us all. We can starve together or feast together.”
Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants
When I left the coffee shop this morning I was fascinated with the fallen leaves along Howes Street. I may have looked a bit strange walking among them looking for colors, patterns, and shapes, camera in hand snapping an image here and there. Also, stooping once in a while to get a closer look. I look at all those leaves that are individually unique, yet in unity they make for a colorful fall collage. And as a special touch nature adds a few drops of moisture from the night’s frost. We are a few degrees cooler than yesterday but still blessed with blue skies and sunshine this afternoon. Another beautiful fall day to enjoy. I hope you are also!

To almost any photographer, your fascination with the leaves would be very relatable, and, might I add, you came away with a very appealing fall image.
As for the quote. Sadly, I don’t hold much hope that mankind will form a collective, at least not without a catastrophic event or a real advancement. I think there was an old Twilight Zone episode where only two men were left in the world, and they were still at war.

I figured there would be some who related to my fascination with leaves. I do have hope but I will not go to war demanding it. My hope is we each do what we can and send some ripple across those troubled waters. I find myself at times in fear of a catastrophic event but always hoping for a better outcome. If we don’t learn of other solutions then wars will continue. And, sadly, some may never learn. Call me a dreamer I guess.

Hey, nothing wrong with dreaming. While I think most of us have a bit of a dreamer in us, I’m more of a hopeful pragmatist—I try to stay optimistic about the future, but also try and approach challenges with practical, realistic views.

Beautiful leaves. I have 4.5 acres of oaks and they are all so different all of the time. Beauty that cannot be caught by camera most of the time. Just relish it.

Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment. Some scenes I don’t even press the shutter button. It seems our camera and words fall short of the real thing. Please come again.
