    Bedroom Window

    Bedroom Light
    Bedroom Light

This is a second morning of overcast skies and cooler temperatures. Now at the Bean Cycle for a latte and to use their internet. Talk is about the weather as people get excited about the approaching fall weather. The other night I had to get up to stretch my legs and walk around. When I saw this bedroom window light I had to go back in and grab my camera. There this something about the feel I liked. Have a super Awesome day!

“The animal merely makes a bed, which he warms with his body in a sheltered place; but man, having discovered fire, boxes up some air in a spacious apartment, and warms that, instead of robbing himself, makes that his bed, in which he can move about divested of more cumbrous clothing, maintain a kind of summer in the midst of winter, and by means of windows even admit the light and with a lamp lengthen out the day.”

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Wayne Gretzky

Mr. Gretsky was referring to hockey shots while I’m referencing it to photographs. I’ve come to believe more and more that images do present themselves. This young lady sat at one of the tables on the patio at a local coffee shop. I noticed her brightly colored hat and quickly went through the process of determining how I would compose an image. I then needed to ask her if I could take a photo of her bright hat. So, I needed the courage to ask her and then compose this image. One shot is all I took.

    Chole’s Shoes

    Chloe’s Shoes

I couldn’t help but notice a mother and her daughter enjoying a refreshing drink on a warm afternoon outside a local coffee shop. My photographers eye spotted the contrast in color of the daughters pink shoes and her blue pants. It’s been a while since I approached someone and asked for the opportunity to shoot an image. I was surprised at how nervous I was. I explained what I wanted to do with the image of her shoes and received permission from Chloe to take a couple of images. Thank you, Chloe!

    The Colors

Last week I spent a couple of days in Seattle, flying up on Wednesday and coming back on Friday afternoon. I took one small backpack with spare shirt, shorts, socks, toothbrush and just the G12. I stayed at the Green Tortoise Hostel which is located at the corner of Pike and First Street. It is literally across the street from Pikes Market Place. First of all the hostel was great. I stayed in a room with four beds with only three of them occupied. Andrew was from England and Bosco was from Miami. The hostel provided breakfast each morning: eggs, pancakes and toast. The only stipulation required you to make your own breakfast and then cleanup after yourself. On Tuesdays from 1:00-5:00 pm they offered the Dead Guy tour where they load you up in the hostel van for a tour of Seattle. Along the way they take you to the graves of Jimmy Hendrix, Bruce Lee, and Brandon Lee. I passed on that. They offered free dinner on Tuesday and Thursday. So, I did indulge in the taco dinner on Thursday.

Pikes Place is always a colorful place. Here you will meet the farmer who grows the food, the butcher who knows where the meat came from and the seafood purveyor who picked up the catch of the day just this morning. The farmers did a wonderful job of presenting their fruits and vegetables, the colors were overwhelming.

Some of the color included the people. It seemed there were a lot homeless, many of them were begging. One man asked me for two dollars. When I said no, he mumbled profanity and walked away. Not sure this guy really needs anymore than weed. He was out there each day and on the same corner. As a photographer the options for images was endless.

    A Splash of Color

    A Splash of Color

I like how nature can grab my attention with color. It does not have to be a brilliant color but one that pops out within the frame. There are many reasons leaves will turn yellow. One is a lack of adequate light. When plants become shaded by other plants or by branches higher up on the same plant, the chlorophyll fades away and the leaves yellow. They also change colors because they are not able to maintain adequate levels of the green pigment, chlorophyll. For me it does not matter as long as I enjoy the beauty it presents.

Two trees silhoueted in the predawn light

I miss the morning sunrises of the Colorado plains. I would rise early and drive east looking for solitary objects to place against the sometimes vibrant or pastel colors along the horizon. I find myself drawn to the trees that stands naked and exposed on cold wintery mornings.

    My Favorite Color

    My Favorite Color

Want to post and image taken just because it was there. I saw the patterns and the colors but not much more. With the digital era we can take such images for more often and see later on what we have. There are some things I would like to have done differently which is another gift given to us by the digital era. The digital era has invited into a constantly open classroom. There are no grades only the creations of our vision. Green is one of my favorite colors.

    No Straight Lines!

    No Straight Lines!

A couple days a go I wrote about the dominance of  the color green in nature. Well nature is also dominated with curves. I do admit to enjoying the curves you find sunbathing along beaches :-), but nature has that beat. Let’s just say nature is into curves. You just do not find many straight lines in nature. While, man, on the other hand designs and builds with straight lines. Even the framing of this images is done with straight lines. What we may consider a straight line in these leaves still has a curve to them.

So, when we walk in nature do we take notice of those curves?
