    Christmas decorations already….

    November 8, 2019

Looks like some college students are already in the Christmas spirit. But, I wonder if they remember it.

    Using our inner lens

    November 6, 2019
    New bicycles

“If you try to view yourself through the lenses that others offer you, all you will see are distortions; your own light and beauty will become blurred, awkward, and ugly. Your sense of inner beauty has to remain a very private thing.”

    Lady in a long dress

    October 31, 2019

Lady in long dress in San Diego, California

This is a repost of a previous image but this time in color. I only have one image of this scene because sitting directly behind her is a man in a rocking chair. My timing was perfect because the next image I took was with him in his rocker.

    The studio is the world…

    October 28, 2019
    All in a row

There are two kinds of photographers: those who compose pictures and those who take them. The former work in studios. For the latter, the studio is the world…. For them, the ordinary doesn’t exist: every thing in life is a source of nourishment.

    Ernst Haas

This was taken at a local nursery back in 2011. My sister was buying plants and I was looking for visual nourishment. Amazing what we can see when a camera is hanging around our necks. I don’t fit in the first class of photographers that Haas talks about, nor do I want to, but I do walk every day in the world as if it’s a studio.

    Quieter Momnet

Mid-morning light casting shadows at the Lory Student Center

“Rushing, rushing, rushing. We are always rushing.”

     Cecelia Ahern

There is no better place to watch people rushing than on campus between classes. This is one of the quieter moments at the entrance to Lory Student Center. I had gone to meet with a friend.

    Favorite ice cream flavor is…

    October 19, 2019

A bicycle on the streets in Richmond, Virginia

“Until you got ice cream spilled on you, you’re not doing field work.” Randy Pausch

This image is also from 2010 while on an overnight in Richmond. It really is a busy image. But it brings up a memory for me from just one word in the image. I’ll always remember when my granddaughter told me her favorite ice cream flavor was red. No need to argue with her. 🙂

    Waiting at the bus stop

    October 18, 2019
Waiting for the bus at the Transit Center

“Photography is a medium of formidable contradictions. It is both ridiculously easy and almost impossibly difficult. It is easy because its technical rudiments can readily be mastered by anyone with a few simple instructions. It is difficult because, while the artist working in any other medium begins with a blank surface and gradually brings his conception into being, the photographer is the only imagemaker who begins with the picture completed. His emotions, his knowledge, and his native talent are brought into focus and fixed beyond recall the moment the shutter of his camera has closed.”

    Enjoying the weather

    October 8, 2019

Party weekend in Old Town while we still have nice weather

I took this on Saturday afternoon. I’ve had a cold since Thursday so I needed to get out of the house. Saturday evening was CSU’s Homecoming so there were a lot of people in Old Town. That meant a lot of people were from out of town for the game, grabbing a beer and burger before the game and a bit of shopping.  It was perfect football weather with nary a cloud in the sky. However, the young man running around in the fountain had no concern about any silly football game as he was focused solidly on his time chasing the bubbling fountains. Every once in awhile he would let out a squeal of joy because he almost caught one, whatever that meant to him, and that motivated him to try it again. Mom and dad stood to the side and watched, with grins.

We’ve had wonderful weather the last 5 days. Today and tomorrow  are expected to be in the high to mid 70’s. But the high for Thursday is only gonna be 32 degrees with a nighttime low of 18 degrees and snow. So, we’re enjoying the weather while we can!
