    A Ray of Sunshine

“A person’s beauty is sophisticated and sacred and is far beyond image, appearance or personality.”

    John O’Donohue

I’m thinking, ya gotta be tired of my landscape images from the Natural Areas, so I thought I’d post an image of Katie taken eight years ago. She’s not a sunrise but she is a beautiful ray of sunshine. Yes, I know, there I go thinking again!

    Red Hair

    red hair with freckles
on a dare and not for love
    innocent first kiss

    mws

One perk of reaching 70 years of age is how many people I have encountered in life. Some I will keep as lifelong friends while some will only be a part of my life for a season or two. But, what I have from each of those encounters are memories and the awareness of how they changed my life in some way. I encountered a lot of people during my seven years working as flight attendant, both crew and passengers. And, I was lucky enough to photograph several of the flight attendants I worked with, both men and women. This young lady is Lori and the image was taken in 2009. Because she is outgoing and comfortable with herself we came away with some very good images. This is one of my favorites.

Now about the haiku. I wrote the haiku this past week while reflecting on a few experiences of my childhood. I started a project a a couple years ago to write a simple memoir for my grandchildren. One of those experiences needs to be the first kiss. The first kiss I remember was with my red haired neighbor, Carolyn. I’m suspecting I was 8 or 9 and she was 6 or 7. Her brother, one of my classmates, put us up to it with a dare. I’m posting this image of Lori because she has the red hair and the perfect amount of freckles to go along with my haiku and story.

    A Casual Shot

Good morning. Hoping all is well with everyone. Have an appointment this morning with a surgeon for cataract surgery I now need. There has always been a fear when I think about the possibility of losing my eyesight. So many core activities in my life are based around my eyes: reading, journaling, photography, blogging, driving and the beauty of this world.

This is an image from a short and quick session I did this past week for a photo Dan needed on the website he is working on. He wanted some casual shots for customers to see.

    Found in the Spotlight

    In the spotlight
    In the spotlight

I had to take my car in to have brakes replaced, so after dropping it off I walked to a nearby coffee shop.  I noticed this young lady working on her computer and loved the light shinning on her like a spotlight. I went to spot metering in an effort to make her the focus and darken the background. As I raised the camera she spotted me. Caught! I lowered the camera and asked if I could take her photo. After getting her approval I suggested she just be natural. Well, that didn’t happen as she knew I was pointing a camera at her. However, I’m pleased with the image.

    Brothers in Sync

    Brothers in Sync
    Brothers in Sync

On Fathers Day I spent time with my daughters in-laws. Needless to say, I ate way too much. Matt’s twin brother and his family were out from Chicago. Matt has to two boys and his brother has four for a total of six young boys. Grandma wanted to buy the boys bib-overalls, in memory of her dad who wore them all the time,  so photos were taken. During the chaos of pulling together all six boys I happen to catch this image of two brothers. The pose and identical clothes just made this a special image for me.

We had some gray clouds yesterday afternoon that provided some very nice defused light in my bedroom, great for portraits. Unfortunately I had no beautiful model nearby so I grabbed an “old” standby. Had him stare out the window and took a half dozen shots. I like the lighting but sure can tell he needs a haircut and the beard trimmed. Probably lose half a million of my followers after posting this. 🙂 Have a super weekend!
