    Family, BBQ and Sunset

This past Saturday afternoon I went to a BBQ at my oldest daughters home. They grilled up some elk burgers and brats. 🙂 Games were played, children and puppy dogs ran all over the place and lots of laughter was heard.

Chris and Cody supplied the meat while everyone else was asked to bring a side dish. Well that meant there were too many salads and deserts to fit on one plate so multiple trips to the table were needed. I found this young girl exploring all of the back yard, walking stick in hand.

As the sun went down I stood along the fence in their backyard with camera in hand and watched the colors. Nature was magically making  art and I had a great front row seat.

    Closed for the Night

    Closed for the Night

Plants that tuck themselves in for bedtime exhibit a natural behavior known as nyctinasty. Scientists know the mechanism behind the phenomenon: In cool air and darkness, the bottom-most petals of certain flowers grow at a faster rate than the upper-most petals, forcing the flowers shut. I’m not sure what this flower is but I encountered a dozen of them along a raised garden on a late evening walk. All of them were closed. I may have to revisit these flowers to observe and learn more about them. Hope everyone has a super awesome weekend!

Accept It and Live Up To It.

    Morning Glory
    Morning Glory

“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”

    Gautama Buddha

Cloudy this morning with a 60% chance of rain and into tomorrow. I am heading up to the Shambhala Mountain Center and spend about a half day with friends.  The last time I was up there they were building their Great Stupa. Could be a bit cold as they are around 7500 feet in elevation.

Took this image of a Morning Glory a few days ago around my ponds. I just love how they pop with color. Hope everyone has a good weekend.
