Morning Coffee

My friend Jeff came by and picked me up for coffee at Mugs this morning, which became two hours of good conversation. He is moving to senior low-cost housing in Windsor and needed to talk about it. It’s something both of us have talked about for over a year. So this morning we talked about facing the reality that many of us do qualify for senior housing and for low-cost housing. Yet, our minds do not always follow our age. I qualify for both. In fact, I have my name on the waiting list for 2 of those facilities.

I was trying to figure out what to say in a blog post for this evening because it’s been a couple days and I don’t want my millions of readers worrying. I also have comments I’d like to respond to. As far as my health I am still not driving and I’m not lifting over ten pounds. I will see the surgeon this coming Friday and hopefully have the staples removed and be given the okay to to drive again. I am still taking it cautiously when I move, making sure I take care of my incision. Thanks to all of you who checked on me. It means a lot. They say we could see snow overnight here and I see some of you have already had snow or rain today. I hope you had a good weekend and stay dry and warm!

I’m glad you and Jeff can have these conversations. As they say, “growing old isn’t for the faint of heart.” For many, if not all, there are tough decisions and often major changes required. The neighborhood we live in has a majority of seniors, not by design or plan, but because the housing is somewhat accommodating for seniors. Proper senior care facilities around here are very expensive. I know of two neighbors where the wives are still in homes while their husbands are in nearby care facilities with dementia. If it’s long-term, the care expenses will likely require them to sell their homes eventually. My greatest fear is that I will become a similar burden to Bonnie. I’d want an “off switch” in that case.

The huge number of Monte Stevens readers I represent are always glad to hear from you and more than pleased that you are following recommendations and on the road to recovery. Still no snow here so far. Only cold rain and mist for the last couple of days.

I hope you have a great week, Monte!

Yes, proper senior care facilities are expensive. I also have the fear of becoming a burden to my family due to old aging. I have friends who are living their later years in facilities they do not want to be in. I am doing all I can to make this healing process successful even if it’s slower than I want. We had a dusting of snow overnight. But our day has had blue skies and sunshine so much of the snow has melted.

Monte, it is always so good to hear from you and witness the grace and mindfulness with which you navigate the changes, some gentle and others sudden, in your life. As with Earl and all of your other friends here on your blog, I am relieved and grateful that you have been able to “walk” through this recent health challenge. Linda and I continue to occasionally visit our own housing situation as we age. Thankfully, our home and neighborhood are very age friendly, yet still a good deal for us to manage as we age. Isn’t it nice that you have a friend like Jeff that you can have these very real discussions with. Your Mugs photo is very inviting!

The weather here continues to be more like early Spring vs. WY in mid-Winter. I literally see folks out walking their dogs in their shirt sleeves. Still no real snow – we haven’t even had to break out the snow shovels! Praying for a very wet Spring. Blessings and thank you for the health update. Hugs, g.

We had a dusting of snow overnight but blue skies and sunshine for the day. It seems to have been a strange winter almost everywhere. So, we pray for our world and all of creation. Blessings to you and Linda!!
