Keeping a journal…

Keeping a journal has taught me that there is not so much new in your life as you sometimes think. When you re-read your journal you find out that your latest discovery is something you already found out five years ago. Still, it is true that one penetrates deeper and deeper into the same ideas and the same experiences.

Thomas Merton

When I journal I write about my thoughts, questions, dreams, fears, and journal about what I see around me in this world. But I also journal because I believe there are words to discover within these fountain pens when I penetrate deep enough. So I am learning to not spend time trying to analyze or criticize what I write. I just write them down in my journal because they may be seeds for other ideas to write about and I desire those seeds. Journaling is a gift to and for me. And, yes, I do reread them to see what I have relearned. May you enjoy your weekend!

Your dedication to journaling is to be admired. Even though I know it to be a worthwhile activity for exploring and getting to know oneself, I’ve not ever been able to do it with consistency. And hey, it’s a great activity to justify buying those neat pens! May you have a lot of positive, interesting and insightful things to write in your journal this weekend. My best!

I hope you don’t think that I consistently journal. Some days I can write a paragraph and some days I can write a couple pages. However, I have reached a place where I write every day. I also have formed the habit of writing a paragraph of gratitude almost every night before I go to bed. And yes having high-quality fountain pens and journals will lure me into picking them up. I hope you are enjoying your weekend!

I must say I admire your journalling consistency. I couldn’t keep it up after two attempts. I still have my small, spiral bound book I journaled in while camping with my daughters but I’ve never gone back to read it, not sure why. Probably need therapy to discover reasons.

Thanks Joe. I’m not sure why some people are consistent with journaling and some are not. Probably the same reason I have sisters who knit, make bracelets, woodcarving, crocheting, and gardening all summer. And, I have friends who play video games, binge on movies, or never miss a football game. Journaling is something I enjoy, and it could be ego. I hope you are enjoying life!!
