    In the presence of beauty

The human soul is hungry for beauty; we seek it everywhere – in landscape, music, art, clothes, furniture, gardening, companionship, love, religion and in ourselves. No-one would desire not to be beautiful. When we experience the Beautiful, there is a sense of homecoming. Some of our most wonderful memories are of beautiful places where we felt immediately at home. We feel most alive in the presence of the Beautiful for it meets the needs of our soul.

What a beautiful morning for a bicycle ride along Spring Creek to Mugs for coffee and wonderful conversation. This is a good time of the year for images like this due to the timing of my ride and the rising of the sun. I’m sharing this image of what I get to experience on these morning rides. Alissia was my barista and an Old Town mocha was my drink. A few clouds have now moved in as a cold front arrives late tonight which I hope brings us moisture in the form of rain and snow early Friday morning. And, both Friday and Saturday nights could be below freezing. I will be okay with that if we also get moisture. May you enjoy this day!

    New Apron

Annie was sporting a new apron made by her mother. This apron is number two. So, I’m showing you both Annie and apron number two. Well done mom! I am about to head to Pedro’s Coffee and meet up with Eric. I hope you have a great day and weekend!

    And, Happy Valentine’s Day!

    The Barista’s Smiles

    Adriana and Meg

It was surprisingly warm this morning at 57 degrees, reaching a high of 69 degrees. Even though the wind was gusting a bit I rode the bicycle to the coffee shop, taking the Spring Creek Trail just for the ride. Two of the baristas were taking photos of latte art to put on their Facebook or Instagram sites for the coffee shop. So I took a photo of them.

My dad’s graveside celebration of life will be on Wednesday morning the 17th at 9 am in Follett, Texas. Sheree (my sister), Monica (my youngest daughter), and I are going to drive down leaving early on the 16th and drive back right after the service on the 17th. We will stay one night, the 16th, in Perryton at the Quality Inn. It will be a very quick trip down and back. We will gather around his casket and share individually something about dad. I hope you had a good day!!

    Being Alive Makes a Difference

Whether we’re a preschooler or a young teen, a graduating college senior or a retired person, we human beings all want to know that we’re acceptable, that our being alive somehow makes a difference in the lives of others.

    Fred Rogers

Dean was showing off her art this morning so I’m showing it here. It is overcast, cool and rain predicted later this afternoon. This is CSUs last day of graduations. Dorm parking lots are empty but parking lots at Moby Arena and Lory Student Center are full. I have one graduation party this afternoon for Adriana, one of the baristas/managers at Mugs. I want to attend because knowing her has made a difference in my life! I’m grateful for her presence!! I wish the best for her in all of life. Congratulations, Adriana!!!

    … join the dance

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

    Alan Watts

I arrived four minutes before the coffee shop opened and stood outside. I watched and listened as the wind blew begging the trees to dance with her. Even in these unsettled times of our society and with the wind of change blowing, I stood there having a feeling of being settled and calm inside. I took a couple long steady breaths of prayer, raised my camera and took four images of the gently swaying trees. Shortly, my barista, Winter, opened the door and I entered to enjoy her mocha latte and the gift of my coffee life. And, I knew I was joining in the dance.

    Top of my Gratitude List

    Adriana and Emma

May the light of your soul guide you; May the light of your soul bless the work you do with the secret love and warmth of your heart; May you see in what you do the beauty of your own soul; May the sacredness of your work bring healing, light and renewal to those who work with you and to those who see and receive your work; May your work never weary you; May it release within you wellsprings of refreshment, inspiration and excitement…

    John O’Donohue

My coffee life this morning had a special perk to it. I was pleased to see Emma at the coffee shop when I arrived. Let me tell you about it. So Adriana, in the background, is one of the current baristas, a full time student at CSU and a manager at Mugs. Emma, in the foreground, worked at Mugs for many years while a student at CSU. She now lives in Massachusetts after graduation and is in town for a visit. These two were roommates for several years and two of the most beautiful people on the earth. They both have made a lot of my mornings better by their presence, offering their smiles, their morning greetings and making my mocha lattes. My life has been enriched because of the gifts they are and I believe the world is richer because of their presence. Even though I am much older, they inspire me through the lives they live! I also consider them adopted granddaughters. They are at the top of my gratitude list! Even though I knew Emma was going to be here, it was still a wonderful surprise to see her. I’m still smiling!

    I’m spoiled…

We are our thoughts; but we are at the same time much more than just our thoughts. We are also our feelings, our perceptions, our wisdom, our happiness and our love.

    Thich Nhat Hanh

It was a cold bicycle ride this morning to the coffee shop. The high humidity made it sink deep within. Yet a beautiful fog had moved in and I saw a half dozen snowflakes in my headlight. Snow is predicted for this afternoon. My barista was Meg. She greeted me with her beautiful smile and made me an Old Town Mocha (see above.) Life is good! There is no doubt, I’m spoiled! Stay warm.

    I Love This World

    A sprinkling of frost

    You must learn one thing.
The world was made to be free in.
Give up all the other worlds
Except the one in which you belong.

    David Whyte

We have 45° and overcast skies this morning. Now at Mugs. Emily is my barista. An Old Town Mocha is my morning beverage of choice. My ride to coffee was wonderful, except when riding north into the wind. It’s going to be a laid back day and the only one I can live in. I will get together with Duane for brunch later this morning. Then the rest of my day is pretty much free for journaling and reading. May you have a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by!!
