A nap is on the schedule

Arrived a half hour before sunrise. No clouds to be seen but instead a dirty brown haze from the forest fires sits on the horizon. As I watch the bright orange globe break the horizon I realize we’ve not seen the high mountains in the west for several days now as they are shrouded in the haze. Hoping we will see them soon.

My mind was active last night so it was a short night of sleep. I blame it on a caffeine and sugar intake about 2:00 pm and a mind that chased almost every thought with some commentary. A nap is on the schedule for today. 😁

    Today’s Gifts

    Morning journaling time

I start my day with quiet time
    before planning the tasks ahead
and now a mocha at a favorite shop.

Always have my camera, my journal,
    my fountain pens and now-a-days
    the needed reading glasses.

I write to start the day slowly
not rushing blindly forward or the
day cannot be lived to its fullest.

I write to find words that help
lead me one step at a time for
    words that become today’s gifts.

    71 Years, Wow!

    Morning coffee on my porch

For the past two days we have had afternoon thunderstorms. Those storms ahve brought rain and hail but because of that things are looking green. But, yesterday’s lightning strikes were way to close for my comfort. I was sitting on my porch when there was a sudden flash then instantly a crack of thunder that could be felt. It was to close for my comfort. After I regained my breath I noticed the geese were scrambling every which direction. The little goslings were running around frantically. You could see the fear in their eyes, knowing somewhere in that small head they were asking the question, “What the hell just happened?” Total chaos. I’m still laughing. 😂 Anyway, more showers again today and hoping you have a great week. Enjoy your coffee!

And, today my parents celebrate their 71st wedding anniversary. Wow!

    It’s cold this morning here….

… but the good news is we’re suppose to reach a high of 23 degrees to day. After seeing this on my phone app, I bundled up and headed for the bus. There was no desire to scrape ice and snow off the windshield of my car and deal with traffic or parking. This storm brought us 4 inches of snow, making everything have that beautiful winter scene. But, dang the cold! Anyway….

I find it interesting how people handle our weather in different ways. Now the “younger” fellow in the above image must be able to handle the cold better than me. I actually counted four bicyclists, all younger, on my walk over here. A quick thought/question ran through my mind, did one of their parents drop them on their heads when they were “younger?”

I realize these bicyclists ride a bicycle to work or class for health reasons, to save fossil fuel, avoid traffic and parking and maybe because of the image, while I google homes for sale in Phoenix from the warmth of a favorite coffee shop. And, with cold hands download images, try and type this post, eat a chocolate croissant and sip on my mocha latte. Yep, we handle the cold differently! Have an awesome day!

    Talking with Our Hands

“Sometimes, reaching out and taking someone’s hand is the beginning of a journey. At other times, it is allowing another to take yours.”

Vera Nazarian, The Perpetual Calendar of Inspiration

As many of you know I spend a fair amount of time visiting coffee shops and not just for the coffee, I’m also a people watcher. I tend to sip on hot chocolates for that mocha fix that sometimes over powers me or a steamed chai latte over the past few months. This morning I spent time at Mug’s and noticed two young ladies in a heavy discussion at a table nearby. I watched them add to their conversation buy including their hands for more details and expressions. Most of us talk with our hands and I enjoy watching people who add that to their conversation. Some research suggests we improve our conversations when we use our hands. Next time your at a coffee shop or even at home, watch how we use our hands to hold coffee mugs or beer mugs or how we express what we feel and think. And, the weatherman was right. we have about 1-2 inches of snow on the ground and predictions to continue throughout the day.
