When I was younger my friends and I would ride our bicycles to Lake Loveland and fish. Our quest was for crappie and perch that gathered along the trunks of the trees in the water. If memory serves me we would use simple little jigs and it was pretty easy pickings. I have very good memories of those days. And amazingly we did not have smartphones to document it. Nor did mom send us a text message telling us dinner was ready. There seemed to be more silence back then. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Had time to watch these fisherman yesterday afternoon at Timnath Reservoir in the east bay area. Lovely, graceful birds.They seem to be aware of the social distancing guidelines.
Cold February day at Riverbend Ponds, one of the cities natural areas

Made a short walk at Riverbend Ponds just to find some images to bring home. These ponds are a popular place for fishing, primarily for bass. Needless to say not many anglers out there today.
Time in nature can be for healing and calming the soul. While on my drive up the Poudre Canyon the other day I came across two people who were finding time in nature, one and artist and one a fly fisherman.
Have you ever just reached out and touched a tree trunk, stopped to touch a leaf or knelt down to just observe a fallen leaf or a broken branch? Have you spent time just looking as intently and as closely as possible? The more time I spend in nature the more I am fascinated with trees whether it is a grove of aspens, poplars along a river bank or a cottonwood standing alone on the horizon. So, my answer to those questions, yes.
As a young boy visiting relatives in the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles, my cousins and I would go fishing for catfish down on one the creeks. It always seemed like more fun to explore the creek than sit on the bank and watch a red and white bobber float on the muddy water. I ran through the fields catching grasshoppers. I climbed the trees along the creek banks and when tired laid down in the shade they offered. Fond memories for me.
Trees are one of the almost endless miracles of nature. There are unsupported statements that the cottonwood tree dates back to the Cretaceous Period, about 145 million years ago and possibly to the Jurassic Period – 200 million years ago. Makes our lifetime miniscule. I was taught to respect our elders and as I move more towards being an elder myself I grow in my respect for nature as one of my elders.
Chambers Lake is a 254 acre lake used for supplying water to eastern Colorado and offering plenty of recreation for the fisherman. It is known for its cutthroat and rainbow trout, Kokanee, Mackinaw and Splake. I visited the lake on the short camping trip last week and almost camped at the lake. It may have been quieter since the lake is locate off the highway. While on an early morning drive looking for aspens I noticed this couple fishing along the shoreline. Loved the colors and feel of this scene so stopped to take a half dozen shots. Wonder if they caught anything. I’m also posting another aspen shot. Found these aspens about two miles from where I took the image of the lake.
