    Under The Weather

    Foggy Morning
    Foggy Morning

Have been under the weather the past 5 days. Started as a sore throat and then a major head cold. I usually pass through colds in 48 hours or less so this is different. My muscles hurt from all the coughing. Any way here is a shot from a week ago when we had some early morning fog. We don’t get fog that often out here so we grab when we can. Even if we have a cold. I also thought a piece of coconut cream pie would help, so I took one before going to bed.

    Life in Colorado

    Games Been Cancelled
    Games Been Cancelled

Yesterday morning I drove through Rowland Moore Park and found they’d cancelled the volleyball game. Something about snow and 32 degree temperature. So I headed over to Cafe Ole and indulged in a coffee and slab of freshly backed carrot bread. By 9:00 we had blue skies and sushine. By 2:00 pm it was 45 degrees and the snow was melted. Such is the life in Colorado.

    Watching the Sunset

It is not only the tool that makes a good photograph. It is the person behind it.

    Norman J. Piluke

I have invested good money into my tools for photography and I hope to spend the rest of my life investing in the person behind those tools and every once in a while in front of those tools. Anyway, it’s Friday and another week has quickly come and gone. I’ve gotta quit blinking so much these weeks are blazing by.

    A Morning Walk

    The Potomac River

It was warm and muggy. After the short walk the sweat on my body was causing my shirt to stick to my back. When the wind blew the coolness felt good. It was quiet morning, very few people were out and yet it was after 8:00 am. The empty park felt as if it was all mine. In my imagination all the empty benches were calling me to sit and rest. So, I picked one. I wrote a few thoughts and observations in my moleskin, enjoying the peacefulness of the small park. I also took a few shots of what I saw to help document the moment. It was a good morning walk.

    Hidden Bench

    In the background

While walking in a park in Savannah I was drawn to a vine entwined metal archway. I was not satisfied with any of my images. Something was missing. As I started to leave I noticed the bench in the background. My mind then envisioned the scene you see above. I shortened my DOF and moved in closer to the archway, eliminating it. I like this image as it is no longer a snapshot but pulls the two subjects together and removes the busy street scene in the background. Please let me know what this scene says to you.

    Yea for Spring

    Spring is Near

The first day of spring in the U.S. is considered to be around March 20 or 21, depending on what day the vernal equinox occurs. This is when the sun sits directly above the equator on its apparent trip northward. I took this image on March 20 while on a walk at Inniswood Gardens. I like how it shows the tree blossoms and the green grass as well as the barren trees and the lonely bench. A big Yea for Spring!

    The Innis Sisters

    The Innis Sisters

I took Jamie to InnisWood Gardens. They have a sculpture recognizing the efforts of the Innis sisters. The sisters  wanted to preserve and enhance their  gardens and woodlands for the enjoyment of all people resulted in their generous donation of their home and property to the Metro Parks in 1972. This sculpture shows the one sister reading to the other who os holding a basket of flowers. Jamie ran over and stood behind them while I took the photo.

    Snow Capped

    Snow Capped Posts

It can be rewarding to get outside the day of or the day after a snowfall, you never know what you might find. The day before this image was taken we had a nice snowfall and as sometimes happens today has turned out to be bright, sunny and warm, a great time to be outside. I drove to a park located near my condo and started to walk around. Near the kids playground, which was empty, there is a maze for the children, made of treated posts. The snow on the flat top is melting and creating a wonderful pattern just waiting for some guy with a camera to take a shot. That was me. It’s good to get out after a snowfall.
